The intelligence advantage: Aligning strategic identity with digital execution

Living Group and tml Partners hosted a CMO roundtable on May 13th with marketing leaders from across the professional and financial services sectors, focused on how firms can create distinction in increasingly homogenised, AI-driven markets.

Kate and Duncan Shaw opened the session with insights from Living Ratings, exploring how brand and digital intelligence are evolving across asset managers, law firms and wealth managers. The presentation highlighted a sector-wide shift toward stronger evidence-led content, more distinctive visual identities and increased investment in digital experience, while also revealing how much foundational UX and functionality still lag behind expectations.

The discussion that followed centred around a growing challenge facing the industry: as AI accelerates content production and standardises brand language, differentiation is becoming harder to sustain. A major theme throughout the session was credibility and the increasing importance of authenticity, expertise and visible human presence as trust signals.

Another key talking point was the role of thought leadership in an oversaturated content environment. The group explored whether firms are genuinely helping audiences think differently or simply contributing to an endless stream of similar perspectives.

That conversation naturally evolved into a broader discussion around execution and experience. While many firms have ambitious brand narratives and clear strategic positioning, translating those consistently across websites, content ecosystems and digital experiences remains a significant challenge, often slowed by internal complexity and stakeholder alignment.

One theme remained consistent: in a market increasingly shaped by automation, firms will need to differentiate through clarity, usability, evidence and authentic expertise rather than volume alone.
