GoCompare: backlash or viral stunt?

There are a number of GoCompare adverts that are doing the rounds at the moment, featuring billboards that have seemingly been 'doctored' by members of the British public.


At first glance they look genuine, however on closer inspection we are more than a little suspicious and think they are part of a clever viral campaign across a number of different channels. Adding weight to this theory, GoCompare has also recently produced a spoof ad for C4's Comedy Gala with Jimmy Carr (perhaps he should have compared tax avoidance schemes first).


The character, Gio Compario, who registers off the annoyance scale for many of us, has been at the forefront of huge growth for GoCompare, successfully raising brand awareness and assisting in delivering a £34m profit in 2012.


Either way, it's got us all talking!
